For Patients

What to bring

Please bring to your consultation:

  • Medicare Card
  • Pension card, Veteran's health card (if applicable)
  • Referral from your GP (no more than 12 months old)
  • Up-to-date list of all your medications, including medication name, strength, dose
  • Test results relevant to your condition
    • In particular, if you have had any CT or MRI imaging, please bring the scans themselves (on film or CD) in addition to the written report

What to expect

 A typical first consultation entails

  • History: a detailed account of your symptoms as well as past medical problems and medications
  • Examination: the neurologist will examine the nerves in your face and limbs. Usually removing socks and shoes is the only undressing that is required, but it can be helpful to wear loose clothes (e.g. trousers that roll up) to make some parts of the examination (like checking reflexes) easier
  • Review of any investigations
  • Discussing the likely diagnosis and making a plan together for further tests, treatment, and follow up visits
